EECS TA Guide

Applications for a TA position in EECS are available in the EECS Graduate Office (38-444). Applications for the spring term are due around October 31 of the previous term and those for the fall term are due around March 31 of the previous term.

Not only do TA applicants rank the subjects they would like to TA, but professors also submit to the department preferences as to whom they would like as their TAs. Thus, to maximize one's chances of obtaining a TAship, it is strongly recommended that one talk to the lecturers in charge of the subjects one would like to TA. Anne Hunter typically sends out an e-mail to all students as soon as teaching assignments for professors are known and encourages TA applicants to get going right away.

Since it is logistically difficult to manage teaching resources and professors' and TAs' preferences, there is no fixed date that one will be notified whether one got a TAship or not. Offers can be made anywhere from months before Registration Day all the way to the first week of classes. Thus, if funding is a serious concern for you, please keep this in mind and be flexible.
